We meet Caroline Charlotte Detwiler, the former wife of Kurt Weill, at her living room in Brook House, New City/NY in 1964. Under the name of Lotte Lenya, she once was famous as Bert Brecht’s favorite singer. She has got an offer to give a comeback concert at Carnegie Hall, and she’s undecided if she should accept it or not. Her husband is of little help. He has left for New York in the morning and Lenya is waiting in vain for his return. Pondering the pro’s and con’s of the offer, she looks back on her life, her years as Kurt Weill’s lover and spouse and their emigration from Germany to New York. The play is based on letters, interviews and notes from the Archives of the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music.
